PROFILE
In
their debut season, 1991, the Jordan team managed the
excellent achievement of taking 5th place in the constructors'
championship. 1992 was not such a good year for the
team, as they switched to works Yamaha engines, which
pushed the team to the back of the grid, and near bankrupcy.
Hart engines in '93 alowed for a slight improvement
in the team's performances, and in 1994, Rubens Barrichello
achieved the team's first ever pole and podium finish.
3rd place at the Pacific Grand Prix was their best result.
A three year deal with Peugeot began in '95, and, while
this initially brought unrealiability, as is common
with Peugeot engines these days, a second and third
was still scored for the team. In 1997, Eddie Jordan
took a chance on two young , inexperienced drivers,
and it seemed to pay off. Ralf Schumacher managed a
third in Argentina, and Giancarlo Fisichella finished
second at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Ex-world champion Damon Hill joined the team in 1998,
after a terrible season at Arrows, and took the team's
first ever win at Spa, with Schumacher completing their
first 1-2. Despite rumours that Hill did not fit in
with Jordan's style very well, the team still managed
4th place in the constructors' championship.
1999 was the team's best ever season, with new signing
Heinz-Harald Frentzen taking two more wins, and winning
54 points for the team, securing 3rd place in the constructors'
championship. Damon Hill, however, was considering retirement
for much of the season, and he lost much of his motivation
as the season progressed. He only scored a mere 7 points.
2000 saw a major slump in the team's performance, compared
with recent years, as they had to make do with the non-developing
Mugen-Honda customer engine. New signing Jarno Trulli
and Heinz-Harald Frentzen went well at some circuits,
but poor reliability meant that the team could only
manage 6th place in the constructors' championship.
Eddie Jordan managed to secure a works Honda engine
deal for 2006, so the Irish team could well improve
next year.
